P365 Jun01: 50mm

This lens is the best bang-for-back you could have in any SLR photography kit. As a prime-focus 50mm f1.8 lens, this is one of the most commonly made, and affordable lenses available. This focal length is in kind of an optics sweet-spot, and as such the image quality is stunning. The focus is tack-sharp, detail is extraordinary and the f1.8 apeture sucks up a huge amount of light, letting you take photos in dim conditions impossible for most lenses.

Though not made specifically for it, this is an outstanding portrait lens. The wide apeture gives a nice narrow depth of field and silky smooth bokeh (background blur appearance).

To top it all off, the lens is dirt cheap. I imported mine from the states for less than $100. Every SLR photographer should have this lens (or the equivalent for your body) in their kit.

Here are a couple of my favourite photos taken with this lens.

P365 May31: 8mm fisheye

I've been pretty busy lately, so I've taken a few easy photos. I also thought it was about time I showed you some of my gear.

These photos are of my 8mm f4 Sigma fisheye lens. This is absolutely my favourite lens. It's the most fun lens to shoot with, and surprisingly versatile. With the 1.4x crop of the sensor on the 350D (ignore the technical stuff if you don't get it :) ), I can get a field of view 180 degrees across the width of the image.

The huge field of view creates some pretty funky effects, which are great for fun portraits and massive landscapes. The fisheye is also invaluable for taking full spherical panoramas.

Here's a couple of examples of my favourite fisheye photos.

P365 May30: Bachus Rex

It's been a few days since I've updated, but I've been pretty busy since I gotback from QLD on Wed. Here are the backlog of pics!

On the last day of my holiday, we visited Al and Trish's upstairs neighbour and took some photos of his adorable(?) Devon Rex cat, Bachus. He was a tricky beast to get a photo of, as he was very skittish. I also ran out of battery for the flash! Oh well. Got a few decent shots :)
