P365 Jun03: 24-135mm
This is my Tamron 24-135mm f3.6-5.6 zoom lens. I purchased this as a replacement for the "kit" lens that came with the camera body. The kit lens was 18-55mm, which is great for wide-angle and was a nice small size, but 55mm just wasn't enough reach for many situations. If I wanted to go just a little bit longer, I had to swap to my monster 80-400mm. This just wasn't practical, and I decided it was time to upgrade.
With it's 24-135mm range, this lens is suitable for 95% of photography situations in which I find myself. It's wide enough to capture landscapes (although I now have a gap between my 8mm and this 24mm), and it's long enough to be able to get close enough to fill the frame with someone's head and shoulders from several meters away. This has made the Tamron my "walkaround" lens, ie: the lens I 'walk around' with on the camera. This is the lens that stays on the camera when I put it away.
Not only is the zoom range practical, but the apeture is good and the image quality is very sharp. It outclasses the kit lens in every way. On top of that, it's not a super expensive lens, such as the Canon L-series equivalents, yet it delivers very high quality photos. It's a workhorse, and I love it.
Here's a few of my favourite photos with the lens:
